Teen Forest Programs

Give your teen more than just time outdoors—offer them a season of growth, challenge, and connection.

Each day on the trail begins with intention: a circle, a gear check, and a shared plan. From there, the group sets out toward a destination, hiking 3–8 miles through varied terrain. Along the way, students pause to learn and practice essential backcountry skills—bushcraft, wilderness first aid, primitive shelter building, and more—developing both competence and confidence in the natural world.

But the real transformation happens through experience. Weekly group challenges immerse students in realistic scenarios: navigating to safety around a wildfire, evacuating an injured teammate, building a rope bridge, or coordinating a rescue. These moments call for teamwork, leadership, and creative problem-solving—skills that stick long after the trail ends.

In quieter moments, each student works on a long-term project, choosing from a wide range of traditional crafts and wilderness skills: carving a bow or atlatl, weaving baskets, flint knapping, crafting cordage, building a pack frame, or creating a field journal or piece of nature-inspired art. These projects cultivate patience, focus, and a sense of ownership.

Over time, something powerful takes shape. A consistent group becomes a community. Teens learn to rely on one another, to lead and to listen, to persevere when things get hard. They return home stronger—more confident, more resilient, and more connected to themselves, their peers, and the natural world. This is more than a program. It’s a place where teens discover what they’re capable of.

Click here to see an example of our Forest Friday's look like! Check in - We'll take a moment to check in with each child and parent. This gives them a chance to express interests, hopes, excitment, and mood for the day. This is also a perfect time for a gear check. Hike and explore - We hike and explore at our own pace. Some days we may actually get to the "destination", and other days, we may just find too many cool things along the way, and only make it only a quarter mile. Our facilitators are trained to expand on natural teaching moments along the way, and just exemplify the love of nature. Lunch - Finding the perfect lunch spot is always a highlight, and makes it worth it packing the extra weight in their packs. We enjoy a healthy meal together, enjoying the natural realease of dopamine. There is definitely a reason why food tastes better outside! Reading stories, exploring and discovering what is around us, playing games, and using imagination, are an every day part of Forest Fridays here! Pick up is back at trail head at 3:30

What safety precautions do you take for each experience? We don't leave the trailhead without the emergency essentials and a little safety training. We hand out special safety whistles and go over the instructions EVERY time, so the kids have the protocol memorized. We also always bring a first aid kit and satelite communication with a direct line to parents and emergency services. What happens when the kids need to go potty? This has gone really well actually. Most trail heads have a portapotty of some sorts. As we get into the mountains further, we use a little pop up tent with no floor for privacy, and a small toilet seat. Our female staff are there to help if needed with direct supervision of another staff.
